FGC is a national distributor for most major (UPS) Uninterruptible Power System OEM brands.

FGC Construction’s core competency is the management and installation of critical power equipment such as UPS Systems and Generators. We work in all states in the contiguous US. We have relationships with all major manufacturers of UPS and Generator Equipment.

Call us to help with the selection process:

  • Data Center UPS Sizing
  • Voltage input / output
  • Breaker Sizing- Power Distribution Availability
  • Wire Sizing
  • Heat Load
  • Seismic
  • Startup, Integration, and Commissioning

Many folks order a UPS off the internet assuming they know these power distribution facts about their facility. Many a restocking fee has been charged due to additional factors that made a wrong decision.

Sizing selection

The size you choose now and for the future is important. UPS sizing, it’s voltage in and out, your load level now and future is important to discuss and attend to. The choices you make determine additional decisions around the electrical distribution upstream and downstream in your facility. Your FGCC team member is available to help with this.

Voltage in/out

The distribution in and out of your UPS is a critical step in the process. You may want to change the voltage of the UPS based on the available electrical system. You may want to carry a higher voltage through the UPS and step down later as this is less electrical wiring costs and a more efficient way to deliver power closer to your loads. Your FGCC team member is available to help with this.

Seismic

There are extensive systems to accommodate Seismic systems for all products. Many times if ordering equipment from a non-integrated source it will be hard for you to get the proper certified outcome for your installation. Your FGCC team member is available to help with this.

Breaker Sizing- Power Distribution Availability

Just because you have the correct voltage in the facility, doesn’t mean you have the correct capacity to install a certain sized UPS.

A typical mistake made by consumers is sizing a UPS per it’s listed value kVA. All UPS systems have onboard battery systems. There is an electrical value to charging those battery systems which is stacked on top of the capacity of the actual UPS. Therefore the distribution breaker size for the unit is considerably larger than what you would estimate for a certain size UPS. Here you run into power distribution problems and wire size deficiencies. Your FGCC team member is available to help with this.

Heat Load

A UPS emits heat and has listed BTU values. In addition the battery systems also require ventilation and a certain room temperature to properly operate. Customers tend to install UPS systems into closets, casements, or electrical rooms which have no ventilation or hvac system sized for this running load. This will and does cause premature battery failures, early battery replacements, early UPS failure, and improper operation of the equipment. Your FGCC team member is available to help with this.

Startup, Integration, and Commissioning

FGCC has extensive experience with integrating new UPS systems into existing physical and control environments. Please use us for that process to make sure you have a seamless operating process. Your FGCC team member is available to help with this.

Should I order a UPS System from the Internet?

No you shouldn’t.

Because UPS systems are one of the most critical components to your load system.

You should have an electrical partner on board or assisted by a team like FGCC. You will incur restocking fees and extensive freight costs for making a small mistake of ordering a UPS system from the internet or an equipment warehouse company.

Mistakes from ordering UPS Systems online:

  • Wrong Voltage Configuration
  • Wrong battery runtime
  • Wrong Receptacle configuration on unit
  • Inability to install due to wiring/physical issues
  • Incompatible with system (ie. Generator, up/downstream distribution)
  • Wrong system capacity
